Getting your groove back….. is complex. I’m not gonna lie. For each of us the process is different, because your groove is unique and what it means to get it back is equally unique.
For it to work, you have to really know what it is about yourself that you miss. What you’ve lost, and if it’s realistic to get back to that. For me, the circumstances of cancer, divorce, loss, and betrayal knocked me sideways. It was like being put in a snow globe and swirled around by circumstance….banging against the glass over and over again.. not being able to find a way out. Once I stopped spinning, I was left to figure out how to stand up, and what to do with the debris all around me.
I hope to inspire you, to discover what it is that you miss about yourself, through my journey. Removing the debris takes time. Finding your way back is not an easy process.
I love adventure. If you’re following my blog, you can get a sense of that. You can have all the adventures in the world, but if your mind isn’t there.. none of it matters. A friend recently pointed out the difference between having experiences and ACTUALLY experiencing. It’s something we all know, but forget. Being in the moment is one of my biggest challenges. I can do it… it’s just not easy for me.
There is joy and adventure in the mundane… and I don’t want to miss out on the thrill of everyday life..
Being a business person means I have to be thinking all the time. I have to anticipate what’s around the corner, how to offset the effects of the economy, what my staffing needs will be in two months, … the list goes on. In business you have to think ahead. It’s a matter of survival. The problem? It comes into my personal life and makes it hard to be in the moment. How does one shut off the business brain and force themselves into the moments of their life without what’s second nature taking control? I fight with my brain all the time… “This can wait ‘til Monday, Stacy. Stop thinking about it!” …. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only business owner or person in general that has this problem, and the nature of my personality likely exacerbates it. I could make a million excuses to justify my over-thinking, but what good would that do? It’s a problem for me. Getting beyond it is the next step in getting my groove back.
My focus right now is being in the moment… whatever the moment is… and not jumping ahead of it. What’s next is important in business.. but if you’re always worried about what’s next in your personal life… you’re missing what’s right in front of you.. happening every day.
If you ever feel like you’ve been swirling around in a snow globe, shaken, banged around with no idea which way is up.. just remember you’re not alone. It’s not too late to get your groove back. It’s never too late.
